Zarifa's Community Dance Changes

Important Notice to Local Dancers: Zarifa is in the second year of presenting Zarifa's Community Dance and due to some recurrent issues, future dances will reflect some drastic changes. Let me preamble this statement by saying the following conditions do not apply to all dancers. To the dancers who respect the outlines of the Community Dance and have supported Zarifa's Touch of Egypt, I would like to extend a heart-felt thank you and hope these changes do not deter your interest in the Community Dance.

Summary

Zarifa's Community Dance was started in March of 2007. Dancers have always just shown up, and it seems everyone knows who's coming but us. To create a smoother organization so both we and our hosts know what's coming, we will now need all dancers to RSVP via this web site to participate in Zarifa's Community Dance. Zarifa's Community Dance provides no profit or benefits to Zarifa's Touch of Egypt, so when posting notices or YouTube videos of the event, it will be highly appreciated if you would kindly refer to it as "Zarifa's Community Dance" instead of "G Street" or "Second Sunday."

Current Changes

RSVP Required: Beginning with the October 2008 Community Dance, all attendees must RSVP via the Community Dance RSVP now located on this web site. If you attend the Community Dance without submitting an RSVP, your position may not get into rotation, or you may not get to dance at all.
Semi-Monthly: At this point, Zarifa's Community Dance is most likely going to be a semi-monthly event (every other month). Precise dates and locations will be posted on the Community Dance RSVP page.
Be ready at or before 5:00: Many dancers straggle in late for whatever reason, interrupting the rotation to add their performance and CD. Please show up at 5:00 and be ready with your music and performance.

Other reasons for changing the format are as follows:

For almost two years, we have organized this free event. This web site sells belly dance supplies to dancers all over the world including sales to Mexico, Canada, Ireland, and the UK but the Community Dance brings no new local business to Zarifa's Touch of Egypt.
We need to know who is coming. Many dancers have attended Zarifa's Community Dance and have never introduced themselves. Let Zarifa kow who you are.
The dance rules are available in hard copy at every dance. They also easily accessed from this web site. Pick up a copy at the stage, they are always available.
Many dancers consistently queue up songs exceeding 7 minutes or more without regard for the outlines of our rules or why we established them - fairness to other dancers. Please review the rules and respect them.

As I said at the beginning of this statement, to those that have truly supported Zarifa and Zarifa's Touch of Egypt, we thank you. Zarifa's Community Dance will continue with the above modifications. Please return to this website before each month to remain apprised of the location, times, and who's attending.
