The Tarot is a deck of 78 cards that has been used for centuries as a means of divination, to help solve personal conflict, for meditation, and to explore one's inner feelings. The reader has the seeker cut the deck, thus crossing the Tarot with their energy, the cards are laid in a particular fashion, and the meaning for that person is based on the reader's interpretation of cards' relationships to each other.

Zarifa has a different approach to Tarot reading. While most readers follow a traditional interpretation of the cards and their meanings, she uses them as a channel for her intuitive abilities which she discovered over 15 years ago. Her readings are not one of interpretations from books or historical definitions of the Arcana, they are what the lay of the cards makes her feel.

Zarifa does not refer to her abilities as "psychic;" her talent is more one of feeling, beyond the ordinary definition of the word. It's not uncommon for her to be in a public place and receive a total stranger's state of mind as they pass by - not their thoughts, their future, or their past, but what they feel. This often comes uninvited, and is not always pleasant.

Some clients are accepting and open, and their energy is easy to interpret. Others are closed and resistant, or try to spoof the interpretation by giving her false verbal clues. Often both are surprised and sometimes unsettled when Zarifa sees past their defenses and hints at their true reason for seeking her counsel.

Most unique is her motivation for public readings. Generally she seeks a problem or conflict within the person that needs attention. If she senses none, she will turn them away, as they don't need her insight. Her philosophy and motivation is one of healing and helpfulness; if those are not needed, neither is a reading.

Zarifa will never provide life-instructions, tell you to leave your lover, or make financial decisions based on her counsel. Her use of the Tarot is not occult, nor does she have the ability or inclination to cast spells. She uses the Tarot as a medium for your energy, to feel what she feels, and to share what this might mean to you. How you interpret it and what you do with this insight is more important than any message she may receive in your reading.

- The center cards represent what is most important at the moment.
- The side cards represent the influences.
- The bottom card is the present or past.
- The top card is the future or goal.
- The four cards on the right side offer more information about the top card, or may indicate the seeker's journey or path to the goal.

A sample Tarot layout. (click to enlarge) The direction and proximity of the cards to each other follow a specific meaning in traditional Tarot, but Zarifa's interpretation comes from what she feels from the seeker's energy.

In this particular reading, the main concern is personal finance. The center indicates important decisions concerning the client's job. The influences indicated by the side cards are the choices of leaving this job seeking improvement or staying without reward. The bottom card, the present, indicates a trapped feeling, as if the employer or the job itself holds the seeker prisoner. The top card, the High Priestess, indicates some insight or awakening is coming.

The jackals of the lower right card indicate protection, but it may be needed - the moon card itself indicates some trickery or deception is afoot, so the seeker must be cautious not to allow this cloud the insight they will encounter. The inverted chariot and disk cards indicate positive changes will be slow to come, and they may be slowed even further by feelings of insecurity or failure, but if the seeker recognizes and pays heed to the insight indicated by the top card, will find the patience to endure this slow transition and emerge victorious.
